“What is the city but the people?”

One of the greatest rewards is to meet people from diverse communities across our National Capital Region. We work with many community groups to help craft a summer experience unique to their neighbourhood. In the past, this has involved community potlucks or BBQs, ice cream trucks, “meet the actor” sessions, giving stage shout-outs of local relevance, children’s activities, and so on.

For Torchlight Shakespeare 2019, we tried something new with our community groups. We offered the free use of a shelter and table next to our Front of House tent. It was a great way for community associations/centres to advertise their own upcoming events or local businesses while also getting involved at the local park performance. They used these tables to hand out refreshments, newsletters, swag, etc. The Westboro Community Association even hosted two nights of face-painting!

We can not possibly respond to all the community requests we get but we try to spread around the love year after year.  If you have community ideas, or would like to make use of a community table during the next Torchlight tour, please get in touch with us at: info@fools.ca.
