Attention all Fools Fans – we have some news to share.

After five years as our head Fool, Nicholas Leno has decided to hang up his silly hat and resign as our Artistic Director.

Nick started working with the Fools in 2017 and has done many jobs for us since then, from washing show laundry, to production managing, to directing our summer shows and shaping the company into what it is today. During that time, he has been committed to growing the company, supporting our artists, and entertaining communities across Ottawa and beyond.

Here’s what Nick had to say about his time at the Fools:

“I have had a fantastic time leading this organization, and have learned so much along the way. The Fools’ audience is incredibly committed to the company, and are incomparable to any patrons I’ve created theatre for in the past. Any director would be lucky to create work for them, and I’m deeply grateful for how much they’ve enjoyed our shows over the last five years.

A big thank you to all of the artists I’ve had the pleasure of creating alongside, our administrative staff, and our board of directors for their hard work and dedication to the company.”

Fools’ Board Chair Kathryn McLaren says:

“We are sad to see Nick depart the Fools but are very supportive of him as he moves forward in his career. Nick has been a committed and passionate Artist Director, and the Fools have grown so much under his direction. As we say goodbye, we embrace the opportunity to build upon the strong foundation Nick leaves us with. The Fools are looking forward to an exciting future filled with new artistic endeavors and continued success.”

Nicholas will be finishing up this calendar year with the Fools, and will be directing our upcoming school tour of Hamlet later this month. That means our hunt for a new Foolish leader is about to begin, and we will be posting a call for submissions shortly. Keep your eyes peeled and red noses nearby.

And to Nick, as much as we hate to see you go, we love to watch you walk away.
