Where Can I Find The Fools?

Some have claimed to have found fools in their workplace. There have also been many sightings around Parliament Hill. But A Company of Fools can be seen performing their annual summer Torchlight Shakespeare productions in Ottawa City Parks.

When it’s snowing, the Fools move things indoors and perform at theatres such as The Gladstone or at the National Arts Centre’s Fourth Stage.

Do You Only Do Shakespeare?

We do full length productions of Shakespeare’s plays with a special Fools twist – adding elements of bouffon, commedia dell’arte, improvisation, slapstick, mask, puppetry etc.

We also create original works that are inspired by Shakespeare. For instance – our production “Midwinter’s Dream Tale” (2009) was a combination of “Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Winter’s Tale” featuring two clown characters.

Why Don’t You Do Works by Other Playwrights?

We work with the plays of the world’s greatest dead English playwright – so in other words, we take the best and leave the rest! However, we have occasionally made forays into the works of others, including Chekov and Bernini. We also create our own work – always channeling the spirit of good ol’ WS, of course!

We never do anything seriously.

Can I or My Son or Daughter be in Your Plays?

Not unless you, your son or daughter are/is a professional performing artist. That’s right, we make this look easy but we are all trained professionals – so don’t try any of this at home kids. In the meantime, please keep an eye out on our website for audition notices and workshop or professional development opportunities.
