The Ottawa Theatre Challenge returns to the NAC Fourth Stage for it’s 16th year!
The doors open at 7pm and for a few hilarious hours the coveted Rubber Chicken Award will roost in residence but not for long… One company alone will have something to crow about when they take home the title of Best Theatre Company in Ottawa.
The Ottawa Theatre Challenge, hosted each year by a Company of Fools, is a celebration of International World Theatre Day. The Challenge brings together theatre companies from across the region providing an opportunity for artists to raise funds for The AFC (Actors Fund of Canada) – the lifeline for Canada’s entertainment industry.
Reigning champions May Can Theatre will return to defend the title from a slew of challengers. Their quest: to create and present original works of theatre based on three items of inspiration in a total of 48 hours. The competition will be fierce with feathers flying, sullying the atmosphere around the easily swayed judges; Emily Carvell (Festival Director, Fresh Meat; Associate Festival Director, Ottawa Fringe Festival & undercurrents), Hugh Neilson (GCTC Managing Director) and Kevin Orr (Theatre 4.669 Artistic Director).
